10 p.m. Sundays on ABC
Episode: Nov. 4, "Two Places"

Calista Flockhart, Rob Lowe and Sally Field let their talent shine through Sunday night. They were able to take a difficult situation, with major contributions from the writing team and portray it with dignity and tact.

The focal point tonight, for me anyway, was the miscarriage that Kitty and Robert suffered through. The program began with the "quickie wedding" plans to do some damage control since Robert is a presidential hopeful and the couple is not yet married. All the plans are being made for the wedding to be held at Nora's home and in the meantime, Kitty goes to the doctor for her first sonogram. The devastating news comes there when a heartbeat cannot be detected. Kitty is of course crushed and heartbroken. Sadness, guilt, numbness, etc are portrayed beautifully by the actors and writers.

I felt like I was with Kitty when she heard the news and was dealing with the emotions that go with it. It's good that Kitty has her fiance by her side. Both people dealt with their pain as a couple and individually. Robert confesses his true feelings of guilt, sadness to a political figure, played by guest Danny Glover. Robert didn't want this baby initially since he already has two children of his own from a previous marriage. Now he wonders if this miscarriage is his punishment, his guilt intensifies. Robert feels he can't share this with Kitty.

In times like this, a girl needs her mama. Nora (Sally Field) is wonderful as she supports Kitty. Kitty wants to be alone, wants to be with someone, wants to have a baby, wants to mourn and cry. Thankfully she is letting herself feel her emotions. Depression, frustration, anger and full acceptance will be sure to follow. For those of you that have experienced a miscarriage, you can relate to these words as well as tonight's episode. Having experienced myself years ago, it's not an easy time. I must give the writers and actors kudos' for a story well done.
